Build in public examples that got customers
Building in public is usually measured in likes, which is why most of it brings nothing. The posts that bring customers have three things in common.
They carry a specific
"We shipped invoicing" brings nobody. "The first invoice paid itself at 2am and nobody was watching" brings a reply from someone with the same 2am. The specific is the hook and the proof at once.
They answer a question a customer has
The number that moved, the decision you cannot make, the mistake you would take back: these are the questions your customer is asking about their own business. Answering yours answers theirs, and they come to see who else answers it.
They have one link and one ask
A tracked link in the post, once, where it earns its place. An ask that names the person who has what you need. Without the link, you cannot know who came; without the ask, nobody knows what to do.
Measure who came, not who liked
Replies, clicks, sign-ups and follows, by name, with the post that brought each one. After thirty posts you will know which beats bring customers for your product, and nobody else will.
